2008 WTA District Meetings
(01/08/08) Each year our Association presents a day long District meeting on various topics around the state. The 2008 District meeting agenda and schedule appear below (Registration Form).
The agenda for the 2008 District meetings will include the two hour training for Board of Review training required for at least one member of each town or village Board of Review, under Sec. 70.46 (4) and Sec. 73.3 (55) of Wis. Statutes. These sections require that at least one member of the Board of Review must have attended an approved training session for Board of Review Training within the past two years. To comply with this requirement for the 2008 Board of Review we will provide the training during the morning session of this year’s District meetings. {We last did this training in 2006 at District meetings.}
The Board of Review (BOR) training
will include the basic information, forms and BOR scripts for BOR members to use
in 2008. The training will also include new issues and information for those
who have attended in the past years. We believe that the combination of review
of the basics and new information will make the
BOR training very valuable for both new and continuing officials.
If your town has a citizen board of review, please encourage your citizen members to register and attend one of these District meetings with the other town and village officers.
In addition to the BOR training, we have scheduled a “Question and Answer” period on any topics that those attending may wish to raise to the WTA staff in attendance. Following lunch, which is included in the registration fee, the program will present information on Liquor Licensing (a topic we have not covered in recent years) and recent cases on highway issues. The last part of the program will be a review of current state legislative activity, including items in the state budget.
The 2008 WTA District meetings will have the same agenda at all District Meetings. Please note that this year’s meetings will start at 8:45 a.m. (with coffee and rolls at 8:00 a.m.) and conclude at 3:15 p.m. There are 17 different locations starting January 26, 2008 and concluding the first Saturday in April. We are scheduling at 17 locations (including nine Saturdays) to reduce the travel distance for as many of your towns and villages as possible. Please note we have some new meeting locations in Wisconsin Dells, Stoughton, Marshfield, La Crosse, Siren, Waupaca, and the Town of Jackson, in Washington County on this year’s list. You are welcome to register and attend any of the locations that is convenient for you. Please mark the registration form with the District meeting location you plan to attend.
As in the past in the event of “inclement weather” we will post a message on the WTA answering machine by 6:00 a.m. of each day if that day’s district meeting has been cancelled. Call (715) 526-3157 after 6:00 a.m. to listen to a recorded message if the meeting is going ahead or cancelled. Please note that in the past ten years, we have only cancelled one meeting due to weather conditions, so it is highly probable the meetings will go on as scheduled.
