Wisconsin Towns Association (WTA) is committed to protecting the
interests of the state's 1,264 towns and improving town government through:
Education: WTA publishes a town officers' handbook and other
informational materials for use by elected and appointed town officials. It also
co-sponsors on-site and Educational Telecommunication Network (ETN) training with state
agencies, the University of Wisconsin-Extension and various professional organizations.
Information: The association collects information concerning municipal
government operations, finance, land-use planning, intergovernmental relations and other
topics of interest to members.
Consultation: Individual towns can obtain advice and technical assistance
on matters pertaining to town government operations.
Advocacy: WTA routinely informs legislators and state agency officials
about the town perspective on proposed legislation and administrative rules impacting town
government and town residents. This includes appearances before legislative committees and
participation in statewide panels studying local government issues. See the WTA Policy Goals for information about WTA positions on
issues of statewide significance.
Other Services: WTA also sponsors a scholarship program and provides
assistance to towns in obtaining insurance coverage.
