Oneida County seeks individuals to establish an eligibility list for full time Equipment Operator positions with the Oneida County Highway Department.  Starting 2016 hourly rate of $16.63 - $19.00 dependent on qualifications, plus fringe benefit package.

Position is responsible for performing duties and the operation of various highway equipment in the repair, clearing and maintaining of highways, roads and right-of-ways.

Qualified individuals must have a high school degree, three years work experience as a Highway Maintenance worker or related area, be able to operate heavy equipment, be available to work weekends and holidays, valid WI driver’s license, and have or be able to obtain a CDL with A, B, H and N endorsements.

Assistant Facilities Director

Oneida County Buildings & Grounds seeks individuals to establish an eligibility list for a full time Assistant Facilities Director position. This position directs and coordinates the work of department employees; coordinates snow removal and lawn care; assists in managing projects, assures project scheduling and project material procurement; responsible for repairs in all aspects of HVAC; routinely performs the work of the positions it supervises.  This position has a starting annual salary of $47,065 to $53,789 plus excellent fringe benefit package.

Qualified individual must have a post high school education in Industrial Mechanical Technology; one of the skilled trades or related area; five years experience in maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery.  A combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the necessary job duties would be considered.  Two years of supervisory experience is preferred and must pass background check.

Job Summary: This position performs professional work promoting, facilitating and coordinating planning, development and zoning activities for the Town.  The Planning and Zoning Administrator issues land use permits and works with the Town Plan Commission (TPC) regarding comprehensive planning and the implementation of land use regulations according to the town’s and county’s zoning ordinances. This includes interpretation of unclear zoning ordinance language and review of applications required to come before the Commission for recommendation to the Town Board. This position also serves as the Assistant Ashland County Zoning Administrator in the Town of La Pointe.

Requirements: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a position related field; plus five years of progressively responsible experience in a planning, engineering or construction field. Minimum five years’ experience in a managerial/supervisory role. Experience in the administration of a zoning ordinance including interpretation, permit reviews and enforcement is preferred.

Compensation: $20/hour; limited benefits

Summer Employment Opportunities

Oneida County Highway Department is looking for several individuals to fill summer LTE (Limited Term Employment) positions.  Job duties include performing flag work, cutting grass, assisting the tar crew and other duties as needed.  These positions go from May to September with starting and ending dates being flexible.  The hourly wage for these positions is $11.81.

LOCATION: Oneida County, WI. Reporting work station (Rhinelander)

RATE OF PAY: $11.81 Hour

JOB DUTIES: Conducts patrols through County Forest recreational facilities and land holdings for the purpose of insuring conformance to public use regulations, dispensing visitor information, collecting user fees, recording occupancy and use data, and respond to public complaints. Performs routine maintenance duties; perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be willing to work outside under harsh environmental conditions, possess the ability to work independently, lift moderate weight, walk long distances on uneven ground, and communicate effectively with public, and possess above average verbal and written communication skills. Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Drivers License throughout employment, and be experienced with the operation of chainsaws, lawn maintenance equipment, small power tools, ATV’s and 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. Practical work experience and/or technical training in law enforcement and/or security work is considered a plus, but is not mandatory. Oneida County Forestry Department policy requires that all LTE’s wear appropriate clothing for fieldwork including steel-toed work boots, long work pants (denim, duck/canvas, etc.), and rain-gear as needed. These items are considered personal work-wear, and as such, the employee is expected to provide said items.


Evening Shift (4:00 pm – 11:00 pm) 6.5 hours paid + ½ hour unpaid dinner break.

Day Shift (9:30 am -3:00 pm) 5.0 hours paid + ½ hour unpaid lunch break.

Approximately 3-4 shifts/week (including weekends and holidays)

Approximately 75-80% of the Ranger work schedule will follow the evening shift schedule described above. The balance of the Ranger work schedule will follow the day shift schedule.

EMPLOYMENT DATES: Dates of employment June 10, 2016 - September 25, 2016.

Position starting and ending date may be somewhat flexible.

LTE AIS Project Assistant

Oneida County Land and Water Conservation is accepting applications for three AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) Project Assistant positions.  These LTE (Limited Term Employee) positions assist the AIS Coordinator with planning and implementing the Oneida County AIS program for prevention and control of aquatic invasive species in Oneida County and cooperates with other AIS partners to achieve the goals and objectives set forth in the Oneida County DNR AIS Education Grant.  Two positions are for 600-hours at $12.00 per hour and one AIS Field Lead position is also available for 1000 hours at $14.00 per hour.  Employees will be compensated for mileage during the work day.
